When I learned that Riff Raff had cancelled their gig at Drummonds I nearly didn't go, I'd never heard of Naked Remedy, their replacement, but decided to call in and see what they were like anyway. I settled down to see two guys and two guys only take to the stage, Dave Small on drums and vocals and Tom Callinswood on guitar. From the first opening cords I knew I had made the right decision to see the band. Naked Remedy may only have had 2 members but close your eyes and you would have heard a full rock band. The guitar riffs were funky and rockin' and the drum beats shook you to your very core. You couldn't help but want to head bang like the old days. Tom Callinswood moved like a wiley snake head bowed, fingers bouncing over the strings of his guitar, his long hair dancing about his face as if to keep the beat. The guitar sang with a voice of its own, a voice that told the audience to ROCK. Dave Small had the unusual task of vocalist and drummer. His voice flowed effortlessly from one song to another, at one time he sang 'I can tell ya how ya gonna feel' and he did, the rhythmic beat and punchy guitar told you to feel like moving, to feel like stamping your feet, to feel like banging out a tune on the table as if you'd always known the song that was being played. I found myself texting my friends telling them about this band as if I'd discovered the elixir of life...well, I had in a way, I had found the elixir of rock.
Naked Remedy were unknown to me when I walked in the room but it feels like they will be with me now for always. they are not only a good band but a great one. I do not exaggerate either, they are truly great and deserve to be more well known than they are, although they have played the O2 so they are not some pub band. And the truly exciting thing about this duo is they actually give a shit about what they are doing. So many bands go through the motions of faux desire but the way Callinswood moved and the way Small's face twisted and if inflicted by the very rock beat he was producing told me that these guys felt every note - it was in the eyes.
SEE THESE GUYS!!!! You have to, if you care about the music you listen to then Naked Remedy should be on your watch list...take it from Cake Man, you will not regret it.
